Which Restaurant Customer Messages Should AI Handle First?

Choose the right restaurant enquiries to automate first.

← All guides

Restaurant teams get the same questions while they are busiest: “Are you open?”, “Do you have a table tonight?” and “Is this dish suitable for me?” Those questions should not all receive the same level of automation.

Start with information that has a clear owner

Opening hours, location, parking, menu links and booking instructions are good first candidates when the information is current. Assign someone to update holiday hours and menu changes. If a customer asks about a special event or promotion, use only the approved details.

Connect reservations to real availability

A chat reply can collect a date, party size and contact details. It should confirm a table only if the booking system has actually reserved it. Otherwise, say that the request has been passed to the team and explain when the customer can expect confirmation.

Treat safety and exceptions differently

Allergy questions, complaints and unusual requests need careful handling. Do not infer that a dish is safe from an incomplete ingredient list. Give the customer the approved information and involve a trained team member when the answer depends on kitchen practice or a judgment call.

Test messages during a quiet period and a busy service. Check whether the team sees urgent requests promptly and whether customers get a clear next step. The point is to reduce repeated interruptions without losing hospitality.
